Sensitivity is a Superpower

The bat often gets misunderstood. We picture it as spooky or strange, but in reality, it’s an incredible teacher. Bats have a natural sonar that allows them to sense the world with breathtaking precision — they don’t crash into obstacles the way others might. Their gift of sensitivity is what allows them to move with such clarity, even in the dark.

In yoga philosophy, this echoes the practice of pratyahara — turning inward and listening closely to our own subtle signals. When we allow ourselves to be sensitive, to feel deeply, we actually gain more strength. Vulnerability helps us form more meaningful relationships with ourselves and with others. Instead of shutting down, we open up. Instead of stumbling, we navigate with awareness.

And of course… the bat also reminds us to change perspective. After all, they sleep upside down. Maybe there’s something to learn there too — like the wisdom of an inversion in class, or just the reminder that flipping things around can shift how we see the world. 😉
